Unfortunately I only got to this task after completing the concepts project. So I used a current search term that I’m interested in, “Reverend Guitars.” I have used programs before to save dynamic web sites locally but in this case I found a word document to be sufficient in making a collection of links. I thought a bullet point annotation format was an effective way to look at each resource within the blog format.
After using the program Copernic and comparing my usual search engine results (Google), I found the best source to be Google. (This may be because the demo version of Coppernic does not perform deep web searches.) I’ve documented below the three sources I found most useful and why.

· Purpose: The commercial home page of the guitar manufacturer was definitely my starting point to verify technical details. It’s purpose to be informative with a strong hard sell message.
· Author: Created by the manufacturer this could be possibly the most accurate information out there in regards to specifications.
· Content: This site was extremely biased with a hard sell although testimonials and reviews did try and provide subjective balance.
· Current: Information was nice and up to date with new products and news releases.
· Recognised by some respected guitar professionals and guitar magazines as a reputable brand.

· Purpose: In complete comparison to the official home page of Reverend guitars. Wikepedia provides an unbiased informative background on the guitar manufacturer. Information seemed to be accurate.
· Author: The author of this material is the general public, so there was a need to cross check information from this source.
· Content: Since this resource is retrieved and created in the public domain space, this provided an effective balance point of view.
· Current: Information from Wikepedia is continually updated and edited. In this case the last update was made on the 11th February 2009.
· Recognition: Wikipedia as a source is not very well respected as a resource among academics. The fact that anyone can create content makes the integrity of the information questionable. In some cases however outside the academic space, Wikipedia can prove to be a valuable resource.

· Purpose: The purpose of this web resource is to inform and persuade consumers via multimedia videos and sound clips..
· Author: Similar to my first resource this My Space web site is created by the manufacturer of Reverend guitars.
· Content: As always on manufacturer websites, content must be taken with a grain of salt as the information is often objective rather than subjective. In this case guitar music clips could be enhanced due to the use of expensive amplifiers and effects.
· Current: The site seems to be up to date reflecting the manufacturer home page. Music samples were updated with new guitar models.
· Recognition: The site provides public feedback via a blog style comment layout. Although this may not be considered “official” recognition there is definite appraisal from various users.

Using boolean search terms made little difference. I tried in google the terms " reverend and guitars" to try and exclude any useless hits. I found that the first page of serach results shared many of the same results as my original search. It returned -

From this exercise and other experience I have had with search engines and search tools, it seems Google is still the first place of call to conduct a search. To some experts and Internet enthusiasts it has become a concern to a degree that one search engine is such a dominant force in the search engine space. The danger being that if we all get our information from the same source; our skills, knowledge and learning opportunities may be stunted.
